Orioles Sign Veteran Catcher

The Baltimore Orioles have signed Robinson Chirinos to a one-year, $900,000 contract. It also comes with $75,000 of incentives and a $100,000 bonus if he is traded.

Chirinos will provide Baltimore with a very experienced catcher to help mentor top prospect Adley Rutschman. The former will likely serve as the team's backup but also should get a decent amount of playing time.

In 45 games last season with the Chicago Cubs, Chirinos had five home runs, 15 RBIs, and a .227 batting average. Although his days of hitting at least 15 home runs per season seem to be behind him, he is still a serviceable option on a rebuilding squad.

In 647 career games between the Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, and Cubs, he has 91 home runs, 284 RBIs, and a .231 average. His plethora of experience should not be overlooked.
