Oakland Athletics Sign Pitcher
The Oakland Athletics have signed Parker Markel to a minor league contract.
Markel last pitched in the majors during the 2019 campaign. In 20 appearances between the Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh Pirates, he had a 0-1 record, 7.77 ERA, and 24 strikeouts. Overall, it's fair to say that he struggled during that stint in the majors. In fact, this is his only experience in the league thus far. Now, he will be looking to build on it by making Oakland's roster.
Markel spent the 2021 campaign with Triple-A El Paso. He went on to appear in 41 games, where he had a 3-2 record, 4.42 ERA, and 91 strikeouts. Overall, he had some decent moments with the team, so that could get him some consideration for a spot on Oakland's major league roster. This is especially true when noting that they are expected to be trading several of their veterans once the lockout is over.
Overall, you can never have enough pitching depth, and now the Athletics have added to their own.
