MLB Rumors: Trevor Story Turns Down Two Teams' $100M Offers

Shortstop Trevor Story is one of the top free agents still on the board. But he's apparently turned down two teams who've made big offers for him to come in and play another position. Story has made it clear that he wants to remain a shortstop.

According to MLB Insider Jon Heyman, Story turned down the Boston Red Sox, who wanted to bring in Story to play second base, and the Seattle Mariners, who wanted him to play third base.

Heyman said on WFAN Sports Radio in New York this afternoon that Story "has been offered 9-figure contracts—$100M—and he hasn't taken those."

In Boston, the Red Sox have a star shortstop already in Xander Bogaerts, and he's set to opt out of his contract and become a free agent after 2022, so they likely don't want to ruffle his feathers by making him switch positions at this point.

And in Seattle, the Mariners have said repeatedly that J.P. Crawford is entrenched as their shortstop of the future. But they do have a hole at 3B, now that Kyle Seager has bid his tearful farewell.  But those seem to be non-starters at this point for Story.

Heyman did say that the New York Yankees could be an option for the ex-Colorado Rockies shortstop, if he's willing "to do a 4-year deal with an opt-out after one."

Yankee Stadium would be a good fit for Story, whose home-road splits with the Rockies were not so impressive away from Coors Field. Yankee Stadium, however, is another great hitters park that could serve Story well.
