MLB Rumors: Teams Calling Mets About Third Baseman
According to Mike Puma, the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics, and Boston Red Sox all called the New York Mets about J.D. Davis before the lockout.
Davis has shown that he can be a very solid hitter, so it makes sense that so many teams are expressing interest in him. His best campaign occurred back in 2019, as he had 22 home runs, 57 RBIs and a .307 batting average in 140 games. He has the potential to be a real game-changer at the plate but also hasn't been able to replicate those totals since.
Yet, he still had himself a pretty strong season this past year, too. In 73 games, he had five home runs, 23 RBIs, and a .285 batting average. Although his power numbers were down, he still was effective when it came to making contact.
Davis also offers strong versatility, as he can play third base, first base, and the outfield. Thus, he comes with several different options, which of course helps his overall appeal. It will be interesting to see if one of these teams end up acquiring him before the beginning of the regular season.
