MLB Rumors: Shocking Team "Having Conversations" With Correa

Scott Boras and Carlos Correa are running out of options, and time, to get a hefty new contract for the free agent shortstop. Although there has been lots of talk lately that the Houston Astros will be making an offer to bring him back, one shocking new team has apparently entered the sweepstakes.

According to former MLB GM and now MLB Radio host Jim Bowden, "the interesting thing is, we're hearing some rumblings... that there have been conversations between Scott and the Baltimore Orioles about Correa."

Wait, the 110-loss Baltimore Orioles? The team that's lost well over 100 games in the last three full seasons? "People will say, why would he want to go there?!," asked Bowden this morning on MLB Radio. "Well, why did Kris Bryant go to Colorado? It's called 'your great great grandchildren need some money!' Sometime you gotta go (somewhere) to get the best offer."

Bowden actually doesn't think it's such a bad idea.

"To me it would make a lot of sense. The Orioles have a lot of salary room. They are rebuilding. They have a lot of positive things (prospects) coming. Adley Rutchman, Grayson Rodriguez...Last year, you saw Cedric Mullins and Ryan Mountcastle. You've got Trey Mancini. Correa would be a difference-maker... The Orioles are heading in the right direction.

"Correa's only 27. If he goes there, by the time's he's 29, Baltimore has a chance to relevant again."

This would be a mind-blowing outcome. However, there's also every chance that this word "leaking out" could also be a Scott Boras plot to get the Astros to up their offer.

This is a fascinating development that we'll continue to follow.
