MLB Rumors: Surprising Team Enters Frankie Montas Sweepstakes
The Kansas City Royals may have signed Zack Greinke, but that doesn't mean they aren't open to bringing in another notable pitcher. According to Ken Rosenthal, they also have had discussions with the Oakland Athletics regarding Frankie Montas.
Montas has been getting a lot of attention around the league, which is understandable because the A's are open for business. Yet, the Royals weren't expected to necessarily be big spenders this offseason but now seem to have a change of heart.
When looking at how well Montas pitched in 2021, it's clear that he would be an excellent addition to Kansas City. In 32 appearances, he had a 13-9 record, 3.37 ERA, and a career-high 207 strikeouts. If he can replicate this kind of season onward, he would fit perfectly in the first half of the Royals' rotation.
Alas, the Montas sweepstakes are really starting to heat up. Don't be surprised to see the veteran moved shortly - whether it's to the Royals or elsewhere.
