MLB Rumors: Mariners GM Wants To Add "Impact Bat" At 3B
Seattle Mariners GM Jerry DiPoto is ready to get back at it now that baseball is open for transactions once again. DiPoto spoke with Seattle SportsRadio KJR with a message for the rest of major league baseball: “I woke up this morning ready to transact.”
The Kris Bryant-to-Seattle chatter resumed in the baseball industry today. Jerry Dipoto told reporters earlier that he’s looking to add an “impact bat” who fits at 3B, LF and/or DH . . . Making any nominations, Mariners fans? 😉 @SEASports710 @MLBNetwork @MLB

As pointed out by MLB Insider Jon Morosi, DiPoto has said he's looking to add an "impact bat" who fits at "3B, LF and/or DH". Hmm. That sounds an awful lot like one Kris Bryant.
The 90-win Mariners spent $115M before the lockout to bring in 2021 Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, and it appears that the vault is still open in Seattle. During that prior free agent period, DiPoto acknowledged that Bryant is a "great player", and that they're looking for "impact players", and “players who have the versatility to do a couple of different things, because it allows us to be creative in how we fill those gaps."
Once again, it all screams Kris Bryant. And although the Mariners are one of the leading pursuers of the 30-year-old, they will have some competition from the likes of the Philadelphia Phillies, who are generally also in need of a 3B, LF and/or DH.
