MLB Rumors: Braves Targeting Top Flight Starting Pitcher
The Atlanta Braves have a big issue to deal with now that baseball is back: How to convince Freddie Freeman to re-sign. In the meantime, according to MLB Insider Jon Morosi, that's not the only order of business for the Braves.

Morosi says that due to the Braves' "detailed conversations" with free agent starter Justin Verlander before he decided to re-up with the Houston Astros prior to the lockout, it's evident that the Braves are anxious to bring in a "high-level starter", in addition to re-signing Freeman.
With Mike Soroka out until mid-season, Alex Anthopoulos will be looking for another big-time arm.
Rodon fits the "high-level" need for Braves
The biggest name on the free agent market would be Carlos Rodon, who had a tremendous breakout 2021 campaign for the Chicago White Sox—until shoulder issues left a big question mark heading into the offseason. He posted a 13-5 record, 2.37 ERA, and 0.957 WHIP to finish 5th in AL Cy Young voting.
A healthy Rodon has a premium fastball and elite breaking stuff. But will he be healthy?
If the Braves aren't ready to spend on Rodon, other high-end pitchers can be found on the trade market, like Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray of the Cincinnati Reds, and a trio of possibilities in Oakland, including Chris Bassitt, Sean Manaea and Frankie Montas.
