MLB Rumors: Blue Jays & Marlins Discussed Blockbuster Trade
The Toronto Blue Jays nearly made a blockbuster move after last season as the team discussed a deal with the Miami Marlins that would have included Teoscar Hernandez heading to Florida.
Reports have surfaced from Barry Jackson and Craig Mish of the Miami Herald, citing the two teams talked in November and were working on the parameters of a huge trade that would of seen the Marlins land Hernandez while the Blue Jays would have received third baseman Brian Anderson along with one starter, either Pablo Lopez or Elieser Hernandez.
The deal of course was not completed and the Blue Jays have shifted their focus completely. Management decided to spend some more on starting pitching and traded for third baseman Matt Chapman from the Oakland A's and recently extended him for two more seasons.
As for Hernandez, he's expected to have another monster season with all the protection in Toronto's lineup. Last year he posted some great numbers with 32HR, 116 RBI and an .870 OPS. Word is the two teams have not spoken since the deal fell through and Hernandez is not expected to be moved from the ball club.
The Marlins shifted their focus and signed World Series MVP Jorge Soler and will likely continue to occupy the basement of the MLB in 2022. The Blue Jays on the other hand are favorites to win the AL East and could do some serious damage in the postseason.
