MLB Rumors: Astros "Did Not Budge" On Their Correa Offer

In the aftermath of the shocking signing of Carlos Correa with the Minnesota Twins, many Houston Astros fans are wondering how the team didn't get it done. The rumors were hot and heavy in recent days that the team was strongly considering bringing Correa back. But as Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic now reports, this wasn't really the case.

Sources tell him that the Astros "did not budge from their last reported offer in early November — five years, $160 million." They made no new offer.

This flies in the face of what Astros owner Jim Crane told a local Houston reporter that "the team had reached out to Boras and were 'in discussions' on Correa", according to Rosenthal, and were going to make a new proposal. This now seems to have been a PR move by Crane, trying to rouse enough public sentiment to get Correa to return.

Correa ended up signing a 3-year, $105.3M deal with Minnesota, with opt-outs after each of the first two years.

The Astros, meanwhile, have been left out of the shortstop derby, after the lone remaining star SS Trevor Story signed with the Boston Red Sox today.
