MLB Rumors: AL Team Joins Freddie Freeman Sweepstakes
According to Jon Heyman, the Boston Red Sox have joined the Freddie Freeman sweepstakes.
The Atlanta Braves made it clear on Monday that Freeman's time with the organization is over, as they acquired fellow star first baseman Matt Olson. This, in turn, could have sparked the Red Sox to jump into the sweepstakes so suddenly.
The Red Sox have had a relatively quiet offseason, and this comes after their strong 2021 campaign. They most notably traded away Hunter Renfroe, so they have lost a big power-bat. Freeman would obviously provide them with another one if signed by them.
In 159 games this past season with the Braves, Freeman had 31 home runs, 83 RBIs, and a .300 batting average. It was another excellent campaign for the 2020 MVP, so it is easy to understand why so many teams are trying to sign him. Now, Boston is officially one of them.
