Mets Add To Bullpen Depth With High-Leverage Reliever

The New York Mets continue to build on their impressive offseason, signing high-leverage reliever Adam Ottavino to a one-year, $4M deal. The 36-year-old has been a key late-inning man for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees over the last few years.

Ottavino has a career 3.60 ERA, especially impressive considering he spent 7 years in the Colorado bullpen. He final year in Colorado, 2018, was his official breakout, at the age of 32. In 77.2 innings, he allowed just 41 hits, while notching a 2.43 ERA and six saves. He followed that up in 2019 with the Yankees with a 1.90 ERA, while striking out 12 per nine innings.

Over 11 years in the big leagues, he has a 10.4 K/9 rate. He notched 11 saves for the Red Sox last season.

The Mets have shored up their pitching considerably this offseason, adding future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer, along with Chris Bassitt to the rotation, while plugging Ottavino into a bullpen mix that already includes Edwin Diaz, Seth Lugo, Trevor May and Miguel Castro.
