Marlins Sign Catcher
The Miami Marlins have signed Willians Astudillo to a minor league deal. He will also be at Spring Training with the major league club.
Astudillo made appearances in each of the late four seasons with the Minnesota Twins and became a fan favorite in the process. In 72 games last season with the team, he had seven home runs, 21 RBIs, and a .236 batting average. Overall, he was a pretty decent backup catcher for Minnesota and will be looking to do the same for Miami.
Astudillo also offers immense versatility, so that also could help his chances of landing a permanent spot on their major league roster. Besides playing catcher, he is also able to play third base and first base if needed.
In 167 career games all with Minnesota, Astudillo has 15 home runs, 66 RBIs, and a .270 batting average.
