Season-Ending Surgery For Critical Mariners Bullpen Piece
A bad break for the Seattle Mariners, as one of their top relievers is undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. Right-hander Casey Sadler missed nearly three months in the first half of 2021 due to an injury to the same shoulder.

Mariners manager Scott Servais has confirmed that Sadler will be going under the knife.
Sadler had the lowest ERA in all of baseball in 2021, for pitchers with at least 40 innings. He posted a minuscule 0.67 ERA, an equally ridiculous 0.72 WHIP, while surrendering just 19 hits in 40.1 innings. He held opponents scoreless in his last 29 appearances of the season (covering 28 innings).
The 31-year-old had inflammation in his shoulder last year that landed him on the injured list for 2 1/2 months earlier in the season.
This development will definitely hurt the Mariners' bullpen. Sadler was being counted on as one of the key links to get to the late-inning trio of Drew Steckenrider, Paul Sewald and Diego Castillo.
