Mariners And Reds Complete Blockbuster
The Seattle Mariners have acquired Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Jake Fraley, Brandon Williamson, and Justin Dunn.
The Mariners made it known that they were looking to build on their roster this offseason. With that, the Reds were expected to be major sellers once the lockout was over. Thus, these two teams seemed like a match for a trade and now they have completed a blockbuster.
Winker just had his first All-Star season with the Reds in 2021. In 110 games, he had 24 home runs, 71 RBIs, and a .305 batting average. It was a fantastic year for the five-year veteran, and now he will be aiming to build on it with the Mariners.
The Mariners also have added a very interesting player in Suarez. In 145 games this past season, he had an impressive 31 home runs and 79 RBIs, but also had a very low .198 batting average. This also came after he had a .202 batting average. Yet, although he has struggled to make contact over the last few years, he has maintained his excellent power.
Alas, Seattle has managed to land two impactful players in this deal, while Cincinnati has grown on their prospect pool.
