Houston Astros Sign Utilityman

The Houston Astros have signed Niko Goodrum to a one-year, $2.1 million contract.

During the 2021 campaign with the Detroit Tigers, Goodrum had nine home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .214 batting average. He didn't necessarily take the world by storm, but he certainly has the potential to be a solid depth option for Houston moving forward. This is especially true when noting that he can play second base, shortstop, and outfield.

In 387 games between the Minnesota Twins and Tigers, Goodrum has 42 home runs, 151 RBIs, and a .230 batting average. His best season came back in 2018, as he had 16 home runs and 54 RBIs in 131 games. He will be aiming to find some of that old magic now in 2022. If he does, he could be a steal of signing for Houston.

At a minimum, the Astros have added a decent platoon player to their roster with Goodrum.
