Guardians To Start Season Without 2 Players
The Cleveland Guardians are expected to start the season without James Karinchak and Luke Maile. The former is currently dealing with a teres major muscles sprain, while the latter has sustained a left hamstring sprain.
Karinchak has become an important part of Cleveland's bullpen, so they understandably won't be too thrilled if he isn't able to heal in time for Opening Day. In 60 appearances last season, he had a 7-4 record, 4.07 ERA, and 78 strikeouts. This came after he sported a 2.67 ERA in 27 games with Cleveland the year before.
This is certainly rough news for Maile, as he was aiming to land himself a spot on Cleveland's roster. Although he had a .300 batting average in 15 games with the Brewers last season, that did not stop him from being released. He is a very interesting player to pay attention to once he is healthy, as he did show that he can hit decently for contact.
It is never a good thing to start the season with injuries, but now Cleveland will be forced to adjust from here.
