Freddie Freeman Says He Got Only 2 Calls From Braves In Offseason

After a divorce, it's only natural for the unseemly details to start leaking out. Freddie Freeman spoke to the media at Los Angeles Dodgers spring training today, and revealed that he only got two calls from the Atlanta Braves—the only team he'd ever known—during the entire offseason.

Freeman said he had far more calls from his agent and from the Dodgers.

As ESPN's Buster Olney reported, Freeman and his agent earlier this week gave Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos one hour to accept one of two final offers:

According to four sources, (Freeman's agent) told Anthopoulos that the Braves had an hour to accept one of two proposals -- a six-year, $175 million deal, an average of a little more than $29 million a year, or a five-year, $165 million deal, an average of $33 million per season.

Anthopoulos declined, then went out and made a blockbuster to obtain Freeman's replacement, All-Star and Gold Glover Matt Olson. The Braves hardly missed a beat.

"According to friends in the organization," reports Olney, having to leave the Braves was a "development that left him devastated." His father, Fred Freeman, said "He was in shock. He said, 'I can’t believe it. Why didn’t they tell me?'"

Freeman then went back to the Dodgers, and eventually accepted a 6-year, $162M offer.
