Dodgers Sign Versatile Infielder

The Los Angeles Dodgers had a goal of bringing in another solid utilityman type of player, and Josh Harrison was their No. 1 target, as noted by Ken Rosenthal. But after losing out on him to the Chicago White Sox, the Dodgers pivoted and settled on their 2nd choice, Hanser Alberto.

It's a one-year deal with a club option for 2023. With the Kansas City Royals last season, Alberto got into 101 games, playing a mix of 2B, 3B and SS. He's also made some appearances in the OF in the past, as well as a handful of games at 1B.

That kind of versatility will serve him well on the Dodgers, who are one of the most efficient teams at shifting players in and out of the lineup at different positions. And with some injury history for a few of their more regular players, it's likely Alberto will find himself plenty of action all around the diamond.

The 29-year-old has a career average of .276 batting,  with a .681 OPS. He was pretty much in line with those numbers in 2021.
