Dodgers Re-Sign Left-Hander

If at first, you don't succeed.....

At last year's trade deadline, the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired left-hander Danny Duffy from the Kansas City Royals. However, he never threw a single pitch in Dodger Blue. He was on the injured list with a forearm flexor strain at the time of the trade, and then suffered a setback during rehab, leaving him out for the rest of the year.

Now the Dodgers are giving it another shot, signing Duffy to a one-year deal, with a club option that, with incentives, can balloon the total payment up to $16M after two years.

Naturally, after they were burned last year, the Dodgers are putting performance bonus clauses in. Even though he isn't expected to return until midseason this year, as reported by MLB Insider Robert Murray, the deal does include a team option of $7M for 2023, that includes an extra $2M if Duffy pitches at least 150 innings, and $3M if he pitches 160 innings. That would bring the total value to $16M.

Duffy adds another lefty option for the Dodgers' bullpen once he returns.

The 33-year-old pitched well for the Royals before his injury last season, with a 2.51 ERA. He had spent his entire 11-year career in Kansas City before the midseason trade. He has a lifetime 3.95 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 9.6 K/9.
