Dodgers Manager Says Freddie Freeman "Certainly In the Conversation"

Are the Los Angeles Dodgers interested in signing free agent Freddie Freeman? Manager Dave Roberts spoke with the media on the first day of spring camp today, and has stated his case quite clearly:

"I would love to see Freddie Freeman in a Dodger uniform. ...Who wouldn't?" said Roberts, while adding that the Atlanta Braves legend is "certainly in the conversation for us."

Knowing that the manager is on-board is nice, but we're quite certain that Freeman wasn't worrying about that. The 5-time All-Star is from the LA-area, and would fit right in at first base for his hometown Dodgers, and as a left-handed power bat in the middle of their lineup. Max Muncy, their incumbent 1B, can also play 2B or 3B, or get some time in the DH slot.  Freeman is a Gold Glove caliber first baseman, and would naturally be the regular.

We've noted that the Dodgers are indeed one of the favorites to land Freeman, along with the omnipresent New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays—if he doesn't return to the only team he's ever known in his 12-year major league career—the Atlanta Braves.

Nevertheless, good to get that straight that Dave Roberts would accept him in Dodgerland with open arms. Phew.
