Diamondbacks Sign Star Infielder To Extension
The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed Ketel Marte to a five-year, $76 million contract extension.
It had been reported that the D-Backs and Marte were engaging in serious extension talks, so it isn't surprising to see one come to fruition. Now, the Diamondbacks have locked up their top player for many years to come, and that's simply excellent news for them.
In 90 games this past season, Marte had 14 home runs, 50 RBIs, and an impressive .318 batting average. He will now be aiming to build off this excellent campaign in 2022. When looking at how well he has played over the last few seasons, there's no reason to doubt that he will have another very good year.
In 681 career games between the Seattle Mariners and Diamondbacks, Marte has 70 home runs, 286 RBIs, and a .287 batting average. With that, he also was an All-Star in 2019. If he continues to play this well, he should make many of them from here.
