Devastating Injury News: Padres Lose Fernando Tatis For Months

Absolutely shocking injury news from the San Diego Padres, who have announced that Fernando Tatis Jr. has a fractured wrist, and will be out of the lineup for several months.

The injury could require surgery, and GM AJ Preller says overall it could take "up to three months of recovery time". That's pretty much half the season.

Since the injury occurred during the lockout, when teams were not allowed to contact players, it's doubtful that Preller or the Padres even knew about the injury until now.

Padres beat reporter AJ Cassavell reports that Tatis was involved in a minor motorcycle accident in early December, but that his wrist "didn't bother him" afterwards. Hmm.

Tatis said he felt his wrist flare up about a month ago, but it was "nothing crazy, I thought it was something we could work through." And without access to Padres team personnel at the time, he apparently wasn't able to.

Tatis has finished Top 4 in MVP voting the past two years, last season batting .282 with 42 home runs, 97 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 130 games. He missed over 30 games due to separated shoulder injuries on four different occasions in 2021. The bad injury luck is starting early this year.

The Padres are hoping to recover from a dismal 2nd half collapse last year.
