Cubs Sign Veteran Pitcher
The Chicago Cubs have added to their bullpen, as they have signed Chris Martin to a one-year, $2.5 million contract. With that, he also can make $500,000 in performance bonuses and another $250,000 roster bonus.
Martin was a part of the Atlanta Braves' World Series team this past season. Overall, it was a pretty solid season for the 35-year-old, as he had a 2-4 record, 3.95 ERA, and 33 strikeouts. However, he also wasn't as dominant as he was in 2020, as he had a 1.00 ERA in his 19 appearances then. Either way, though, he should provide reliability to their bullpen.
Martin also comes with a good amount of overall major league experience, too. In 209 games between the Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Braves, he has a 5-15 record, 4.06 ERA, and 187 strikeouts.
It will be interesting to see what moves the Cubs make from here. They did have issues with their pitching last season, so don't expect Martin to be the last one they sign before Opening Day.
