Cleveland Guardians Sign Catcher
The Cleveland Guardians have signed Luke Maile to a one-year, $900,000 contract.
Maile has earned himself a major league deal with Cleveland and will be looking to play more regularly again from here. After missing the entirety of the 2020 campaign to injury, he only appeared in 15 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last season. In them, he had zero home runs, three RBIs, and a .300 batting average. He found ways to make contact and will aim to do so again this time around.
For a player who has missed a good amount of time over these last few years, Maile still has notable experience in the majors. In 230 career games between the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, and Brewers, he has 10 home runs, 63 RBIs, and a .203 batting average.
With this move, Maile will likely serve as Cleveland's backup catcher. It's never a bad thing to add depth to that position, and that's especially the case when it comes at this cheap price.
