Chicago Cubs Sign Veteran Infielder

The Chicago Cubs have signed Jonathan Villar.

Villar was one of the top infielders left on the free-agent market, so the Cubs are certainly happy to have landed him. In 142 games this past season with the New York Mets, he had 18 home runs, 42 RBIs, and a .249 batting average. He also was effective on the base paths, as he had 14 stolen bases. Overall, he has the potential to provide a little of everything.

Villar will offer the Cubs a lot of versatility, as he is capable of playing shortstop, second base, and third base. Therefore, he should find himself as a part of their everyday lineup.

In 973 career games between the Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Baltimore Orioles, Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays, and Mets, he has 98 home runs, 325 RBIs, and a .258 batting average. Let's see how much he improves on these totals with the Cubs.
