Carlos Rodon Signs 2-Year Deal With San Francisco Giants

As the top starting pitcher remaining on the free agent market, Carlos Rodon had no shortage of suitors. Today, he became the first major player off the free agent board in the resumption of baseball business, as the San Francisco Giants signed him to a 2-year, $44M deal.

As noted by Insider Jeff Passon, the deal includes an opt-out after the first season.

Rodon had a breakthrough season in 2021, finally realizing his potential. He rode his elite fastball and nasty breaking stuff to a monstrous 1st half for the Chicago White Sox, and wound up finishing 5th in Cy Young voting.

But shoulder troubles slowed him down towards the end of the year, and took some clicks off his fastball. He still finished with a 2.37 ERA and a ridiculous 0.95 WHIP, along with an eye-popping 12.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

With the signing, the Giants add to a nice starting rotation, as Rodon joins Logan Webb, Anthony DeSclafani, Alex Wood and Alex Cobb.
