St. Louis Cardinals Sign Pitcher
The St. Louis Cardinals have signed Nick Wittgren to a one-year, $1.2 million contract.
Wittgren spent the 2021 season with Cleveland and had mixed results. In 60 appearances, he sported a 2-9 record, 5.05 ERA, and 61 strikeouts. Overall, it certainly was a down year for his standards, and he will be looking to now bounce back with the Cardinals.
Wittgren has a decent amount of major league experience, so St. Louis should be happy about adding a veteran to their bullpen. In 258 career appearances between the Miami Marlins and Cleveland, he has an 18-15 record, 3.75 ERA, and 265 strikeouts. From 2018 to 2020, he also provide a lot of overall stability, as his ERA never went above 3.50.
If Wittgren can find the form he had just two years ago, this could end up being a solid signing for the Cards.
