Brewers Bringing Back Reliever
The Milwaukee Brewers have re-signed Brad Boxberger to a one-year, $2.5 million contract. With that, he also could make up to $550,000 in bonuses.
Boxberger's first season with the Brewers went well, so it isn't surprising to see that they have decided to bring him back. In 71 appearances, he had a 5-4 record, 3.34 ERA, 83 strikeouts. Overall, he provided strong reliability, which is something he has been known for during the majority of his career.
Boxberger's immense experience will also be welcomed back with open arms by Milwaukee. In 414 career games between the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, Kansas City Royals, Miami Marlins, and Brewers, he has a 27-34 record, 81 saves, and 3.52 ERA. Now he will have the chance to build on these numbers from here.
Overall, this is a pretty solid signing for Milwaukee. It isn't game-changing, but if Boxberger can replicate the success he had last season, his $2.5 million salary will certainly be worth it.
