Blue Jays Sign Star Infielder To New Deal
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Matt Chapman to a two-year, $25 million contract.
With this signing, Chapman's final two years of arbitration are taken up. However, once his contract expires, he will have the opportunity to be an unrestricted free agent.
The Blue Jays will figure out what to do with Chapman once they get to that road. Yet, for now, they have the 28-year-old locked up for the next two years, and that is excellent news for them. When at his best, he is capable of providing elite fielding and an immense amount of power at the plate.
The 2021 season was a down year for Chapman, however. In 151 games with the Athletics, he had 27 home runs, 72 RBIs, and a .210 batting average. He will be looking to get his average a bit higher this time around, and when looking at his past success, he should have no trouble doing so.
