Blue Jays Sign Infielder
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed Josh Fuentes to a minor league contract. With that, he also will be attending Spring Training with the major league club.
Although Fuentes has signed a minor league deal, it certainly seems possible that he could land a bench role with Toronto. The 29-year-old infielder just appeared in 95 games with the Colorado Rockies last season. In them, he had seven home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .225 batting average. His 2020 season was more noteworthy, however, as he had a .306 batting average in 30 games. Thus, the potential to be a solid hitter is there.
In 149 career games with the Rockies, Fuentes has 12 home runs, 57 RBIs, and a .243 batting average. With the Blue Jays, he will be aiming to build on these totals. However, he of course will first need to make their major league roster with a strong showing at Spring Training.
Overall, it's hard to find much to complain about when it comes to this move. The Blue Jays have added another player with major league experience to their depth.
