Baltimore Orioles Sign Utilityman

The Baltimore Orioles have signed Chris Owings to a minor league contract. He will also be attending Spring Training with the major league club.

Owings certainly has a good shot at making the rebuilding Orioles major league roster. He has played in the majors in each of the last nine seasons and did very well in his limited appearances with the Colorado Rockies last season. In 21 games with the team, he had one home run, five RBIs, and a notable .326 batting average. He will be looking to hit like that again this campaign with Baltimore.

Owings is a good old-fashioned utility player, so that also should help his chances of making the team. He is capable of playing shortstop, second base, and the outfield.

In 684 games between the Arizona Diamondbacks, Kansas City Royals, Boston Red Sox, and Rockies, Owings has 37 home runs, 220 RBIs, and a .243 batting average.
