Athletics And Mets Complete Big Trade

The Oakland Athletics have officially begun their fire sale, as they have traded Chris Bassitt to the New York Mets for prospects J.T. Ginn and Adam Ollner.

The A's made it known that they were ready to listen to offers for all of their top veterans, and now the first one is on the move. It certainly is a major move for the Mets, as they now have added another top-of-the-pitcher to their very strong rotation.

Bassitt just had his first All-Star Game season with the A's last season. During it, he sported a 12-4 record, 3.15 ERA, and 159 strikeouts. This was also after a shortened 2020 campaign where he went 5-2 and had a very impressive 2.29 ERA. Needless to say, he is going to provide the Mets with more help near the front of their rotation.

Although the A's are losing a very good pitcher, they have managed to make their prospect pool stronger. Ginn is expected to have a bright future but will need some time in the minors before making the jump to the bigs. As for Ollner, the 27-year-old could very well get some major league time as soon as this upcoming season.
