Washington Nationals Sign Reliever

The Washington Nationals have signed Jordan Weems to a minor league contract. With that, he will also be attending Spring Training with the team.

Weems' 2021 season wasn't the best. In seven appearances between the Oakland Athletics and Arizona Diamondbacks, he had a 0-1 record, 15.88 ERA, and seven strikeouts. His struggles also resulted in Arizona outrighting him off their 40-man roster. This, in turn, gave him the ability to sign this minor league contract during the lockout.

Weems also appeared in 15 Triple-A games this past season. In them, he struggled mightily as well, as he sported a 1-3 record, 7.31 ERA, and 17 strikeouts. Thus, he will be looking to rebound this season - whether it's with the Nationals or in the minors.

The Nationals have been quite active with signing relievers lately. Before bringing in Weems, they also signed Carl Edwards Jr. and Reed Garrett over the last week, too. With how poorly their bullpen was last season, it makes sense that they are signing multiple relievers to minor league deals. Now, they each will be competing for a spot on the major league roster.
