Washington Nationals Sign Reliever
The Washington Nationals have signed Reed Garrett to a minor league contract and has an invitation to Spring Training.
Garrett last pitched in the majors during the 2019 season with the Detroit Tigers. In 13 appearances, he sported a 0-0 record, 8.22 ERA, and 10 strikeouts. Needless to say, he did struggle in his lone season in the big leagues. It's never too late for the 29-year-old to turn it around, though, and he will be looking to do just that with the Nationals.
However, Garrett is coming off of a strong stint with the Seibu Lions of the NPB. In 110 appearances over two seasons with the team, he had a 7-5 record, 3.46 ERA, and 104 strikeouts. He showed solid stability with the Lions, so there certainly is hope to believe that this could carry over to the majors from here.
When looking at the Nationals' roster, it's apparent that Garrett does have a shot of making their bullpen. Washington had the sixth-highest team ERA in the entire league last season, so pitching is clearly not their strong point. As a result of this, he could land himself a job if he impresses from here.
