Texas Rangers Sign Outfielder

The Texas Rangers have signed outfielder Joe McCarthy to a minor league contract. With that, he also has received a Spring Training invitation along with it.

McCarthy has limited major league experience and struggled during his time in the sport's most competitive league. In four games with the San Francisco Giants in 2020, he failed to get a hit in 10 at-bats. Since then, he has not been able to make his way back to the majors, but it seems possible that we could see that change.

The 2021 season was an excellent one for McCarthy in the minors. In 74 games with Triple-A Sacramento, he had 15 home runs, 55 RBIs, and a .306 batting average. He showed a nice balance of contact and power, which is something that likely grabbed the attention of Texas. It seems that he could be ready to make that next step.

If McCarthy impresses at Spring Training this year, we could very well see him be a depth player for the Rangers moving forward. That kind of season in Triple-A is quite encouraging, so let's see what happens from here.
