Tampa Bay Rays Sign Pitcher

The Tampa Bay Rays have signed David McKay to a minor league contract.

McKay missed the entirety of this past season after having hip surgery last April. However, the 26-year-old has healed enough to the point where he was able to land this contract. Now, he will be aiming to get his career going again. This injury was an unfortunate one, as he was just getting it started.

Over the two previous seasons, McKay appeared in 26 games between the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners. In them, he had a 0-0 record. 6.08 ERA, and 34 strikeouts. Although he wasn't lights out during his first run in the majors, it will be interesting to see how he performs this time around. The Rays aren't afraid to call-up players to their big league club, so if he doesn't make the team out of Spring Training, we will likely get to see him in some action later on.

Overall, this has the potential to be a decent move for the Rays. Let's see if McKay earns himself a spot with Tampa from here.
