Seattle Mariners Sign Pitcher
The Seattle Mariners have signed pitcher Patrick Weigel to a minor league contract. He was eligible to sign this contract during the lockout because he was outrighted by the Milwaukee Brewers' 40-man roster during the 2021 season.
Weigel is a pitcher who may be inching closer to becoming a full-time major-league relief pitcher. He made three appearances with the Brewers this past season and didn't look too bad at all. During them, he sported a 4.50 ERA and had nine strikeouts. He only had one other appearance in the majors during the 2020 season with the Atlanta Brave. Now, he will be looking to build on his stats by making Seattle's roster.
Weigel primarily spent the 2021 campaign with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. In 36 appearances, he had a 2-1 record, 7.27 ERA, and 48 strikeouts. It's clear that he did struggle in the minors this past campaign, so he will be looking to rebound - no matter which league he ends up playing in.
Nevertheless, the Mariners have added to their pitching depth with this move. Let's see how Weigel performs from here.
