Phillies Add To Their Roster

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed Yairo Munoz to a minor league contract.

Munoz has made appearances at the major league level in each of the last four seasons. However, during the 2021 campaign with the Boston Red Sox, he only played in five games. He struggled at the plate during them, too, as he only sported a .091 batting average.

Yet, Munoz had a successful year in Triple-A, as he had a .305 batting average in 88 games. Perhaps this success at the plate could carry over to the majors in 2022 - assuming he's able to secure himself a spot on Philadelphia's roster.

Munoz has a decent amount of major league experience, so that certainly can help make a case for him. In 213 career games between the St. Louis Cardinals and Red Sox, he has 11 home runs, 59 RBIs, and a .274 batting average. He could be a decent utility option for the Phillies, as he can play third base, shortstop, and outfield if needed. Having a player with this amount of versatility comes in handy.

Alas, Munoz will be aiming to impress the Phillies enough to earn himself a spot on their major league roster. Time will tell if it comes to fruition.
