MLB Rumors: Yankees Expected To Pursue Star First Baseman

Once the lockout is over, the New York Yankees are expected to pursue Freddie Freeman heavily, according to Jon Heyman.
Although it would be strange to no longer see Freeman in an Atlanta Braves jersey, there is a possibility that could happen. The pair were unable to come to terms on a new deal before the lockout, and that is concerning. Thus, perhaps a team like the Yankees could convince the star first baseman to sign elsewhere. Money has a way to do that.

The Yankees have question marks when it comes to the first base position, too. Luke Voit had a lot of injury trouble last season, while Anthony Rizzo is currently a free agent just like Freeman. If the Yankees feel that Voit isn't a legitimate long-term option for them at the position, it does make sense for them to attempt to make a huge splash by adding Freeman.

In 159 games this season, Freeman had 31 home runs, 83 RBIs, and a .300 batting average. This kind of wonderful season from him came immediately after he was named NL MVP during the 2020 campaign. The Yankees, and any team really, would benefit immensely from adding a player of his caliber to their lineup.

It will be intriguing to see what happens from here, but would anybody be all that surprised if the Yankees brought it another superstar via free agency? They are famous for that./
