MLB Rumors: Trade Request Coming from Yankees' Luke Voit

New York Yankees Luke Voit has given management quite the ultimatum as he's demanded to play first base next season or else he wants to be traded.

Voit took to the media to address his requests as he was pretty pissed off how things shook up last season when the team acquired Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs:

I want to play first base for the Yankees. If that happens, great. If not, I'll go somewhere else. I expect to (start at 1B). I'm the only first baseman on the depth chart right now

Considering Voit is 30 years old and only has 68 career HR and 182 RBI in 281 games in New York, some have questioned the merit of the request. He's used to being involved in trade talks and it apparently doesn't bother him as he was almost dealt last season to the St Louis Cardinals and continues to mention he's open to being moved.

Last season Voit was on fire to start the season as he used momentum from the shortened 2020 season to showcase his skills. During the 2020 season, let's not forget Voit led the MLB in home runs, and if you forgot he will gladly remind you.

Frankly, expect to see a trade come down the pipe before spring training. The Yankees are comfortable to move on from Voit and they've been trying to do so for over a year. New York is linked to the Oakland A's and free agents Freddie Freeman and Rizzo, and will be starting next season with someone else besides Voit manning first base.
