MLB Rumors: Rays Top Pitcher Prefers To Stay Put
While on The Chris Rose Rotation, Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow noted that he would rather stay with the team than be traded.
The Rays are notorious for trading players as they inch closer to their unrestricted free agency status, as they are a low-budget team. Glasnow will be able to hit the open market in just two years, so the Rays surely could move him while his trade value is at its highest. If he has it his way, though, that will not occur.
Since being traded from the Pittsburgh Pirates to the Rays, Glasnow has emerged as a dominant pitcher. The 2021 season was another excellent one for him, as he had a 5-2 record, 2.66 ERA, and 123 strikeouts in 14 appearances. However, it, unfortunately, ended in June, as the 28-year-old had to undergo Tommy John surgery for his right elbow injury.
Once the lockout is over, it will be interesting to see what happens from here with Glasnow. It's very encouraging that he wants to stay around long-term, but the ball truly seems to be in Tampa Bay's court. Will history once again repeat itself or will the Rays actually keep one of their top players around?
