MLB Rumors: Mets Manager Confirms Rumors Surrounding the Outfield

The New York Mets have been one of the busiest teams this offseason before the MLB lockout shut down their momentum. While it feels like a solution is coming soon on the legal side of things, look for the Mets to pick up where they left off once able. Mets manager Buck Showalter confirmed to the New York Post that the team isn't done.

Showalter spoke with Mike Puma of the NYP and had this to say:

(The outfield) is something we have talked about. We are on the same page with everything where that is concerned. It's a scenario that we are examining to see if we feel comfortable with it.

It's surprising to some to hear Showalter confirm more outfield interest as the team has already signed Starling Marte and Mark Canha to multi-year contracts. Marte projects to be the everyday center fielder while Canha is expected in left. The team has a number of players who don't have an everyday position so perhaps if they can't find someone on the trade market or within free agency, they look within at their internal options.

Right now the Mets have Brandon Nimmo slotted in for right field while the likes of J.D Davis, Jeff McNeil and Dominic Smith can all provide some days off to anyone needed. Look for the Mets to go big-swinging with a contract offer to free agent Kris Bryant and expect to see them in the running for Nick Castellanos. Some cheaper options include Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham.
