MLB Rumors: Guardians To Target Athletics Star

According to Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, it would make sense for the Cleveland Guardians to target Oakland Athletics star, Matt Olson.

Olson would be an excellent addition to the Guardians if acquired. It's hard to argue against that. The 27-year-old just had a career season with the A's, where he had 39 home runs, 111 RBIs, and a .271 batting average in 156 games. With numbers like these, he understandably played in the All-Star Game. With that, he also is known for his strong fielding ability, and his two Gold Glove Awards show that perfectly.

The Guardians certainly would benefit from upgrading at first base, too. Bobby Bradley is currently their starter. In 71 games this past season, he had 16 home runs, 41 RBIs, and a  .208 batting average. He certainly is a power threat, but he does struggle to hit for contact. Olson, on the other hand, obviously does well with both aspects.

The Guardians finished the 2021 season with an 80-82 record, so they weren't necessarily bad, but they also weren't dominant, either. Adding a player like Olson could help make them a bigger threat in the AL Central, so why shouldn't they consider it?
