MLB Rumors: Clayton Kershaw Choosing Between Two Options
According to Bob Nightengale, one of Clayton Kershaw's former teammates noted that the star pitcher is either going to sign with the Texas Rangers or retire. Nightengale did not specify who that said player is, however.
This is a fun little rumor. Kershaw has been linked to the Rangers since the beginning of the offseason. It makes sense, as they are looking to become contenders, and he is also from the area. They already stole Kershaw's longtime teammate Corey Seager this offseason, so maybe they could do the same. The Los Angeles Dodgers certainly wouldn't like that.
Speaking of the Dodgers, Kershaw's former teammate failed to address them as one of the former's options. It's hard to believe that he isn't at least considering staying in LA. He has spent his entire 14-year MLB career with the team and has emerged into a star in the process. In 379 games with the team, he has a 185-84 record, 2.49 ERA, and 2,670 strikeouts. With that, he also is an eight-time All-Star, three-time NL Cy Young Award winner, and World Series champion.
If Kershaw's teammate is right, we could be in for quite an entertaining storyline once the lockout is over. Out of the two, it seems more likely that the veteran would choose the Rangers over retirement, however. He has plenty left in the tank. Alas, we will have to wait and see what happens from here.
