MLB Rumors: Blue Jays Interested In Reds Pitcher
According to Scott Mitchell of TSN, the Toronto Blue Jays were interested in Cincinnati Reds pitcher Tyler Mahle before the lockout began.
Mahle would be a very good pitcher for the Blue Jays to add to their current rotation. He'd work well in the middle of it, and this is especially true if he can build off his strong 2021 season. In 33 starts, he sported a 13-6 record, 3.75 ERA, and 210 strikeouts. It was a big year for the 27-year-old, so he understandably has a good amount of trade value at this juncture.
The Reds are sellers right now, so the idea of them trading Mahle before the start of this upcoming season isn't too far-fetched. The Blue Jays should jump right back into the sweepstakes, as they are aiming to build off of their very successful season. Getting another quality starting pitcher is certainly not a bad idea at all, and this is especially true when remembering how deep the American League East is.
It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jays decide to go after Mahle again once the lockout is over.
