MLB Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots For Brett Gardner

Longtime MLB outfielder Brett Gardner has openly stated that he plans to play the 2022 season. In 140 games this season with the New York Yankees, the 38-year-old had 10 home runs, 39 RBIs, and a .222 batting average. Although it wasn't a dominant year for him, there certainly could still be teams interested in bringing the veteran in. He has a long resume which includes being an All-Star, World Series champion, and Gold Glove Award winner. Furthermore, he of course brings solid leadership due to his experience.

Let's look at three potential landing spots for him.

New York Yankees: Let's get the most obvious choice out of the way. Gardner has spent the entirety of his career with the Yankees and likely wants to finish it there. However, the Yankees have had a quiet offseason and are expected to be very active once the lockout is over. Furthermore, if brought back to the Bronx, he likely would be utilized as an extra outfielder at this juncture.

Philadelphia Phillies: The Phillies seem like a potential match for Gardner. The big reason why is that he of course has a long history with Phillies manager Joe Girardi. Perhaps there's a chance that their connection with one another could strike Philadelphia to take a chance on Gardner. When looking at how their year went this past season, it wouldn't hurt to have a veteran help them take that next step.

Miami Marlins: The Marlins are trying to get back in the postseason and their offseason moves thus far show that. They most notably brought in Avisail Garcia, Joey Wendle, and Jacob Stallings, but this should only be the beginning of their moves. Gardner would give them a nice mentor on the roster.
