MLB Rumors: 3 Potential Landing Spots for SP Zack Greinke

Zack Greinke may be 38 years old and near the end of his career but it sounds like there's still some fire burning within to keep playing. The free-agent starter is one of the more experienced pitchers left on the open market and projects to make just under $10 million in 2022. Let's take a look at where his next contract could be signed.

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels are interested and have reportedly held some preliminary conversations with Greinke and his reps before the lockout. The team is sick and tired of underperforming and will not leave any stone unturned this offseason. Greinke would help the middle of their rotation and give them a reliable option behind their two big guns in Shohei Ohtani and Noah Syndergaard. Last season with the Astros the veteran hurler went a very impressive 11-6 with 120 punch outs in 171 innings over 29 starts. In his last three full seasons the former sixth overall pick has combined for a record of 44-22. Not bad for someone in their late 30's.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers would love to get their hands on Greinke and bolster their rotation. The team has spent a boat load of money on their infield and have only added compliment pieces to their outfield and rotation. Jon Gray is on board, and the Rangers have a few young starters who could push for innings. Greinke would give them a solidified number 2-3 starter and someone they can rely on for production. He's been a successful pitcher late in his career because he's adapted and realized he can't throw upper 90's and has to change speeds and keep hitters off balanced. Look for Greinke to continue doing so in 2022 and it could certainly be in Texas.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are looking at veterans to add to their rotation and Greinke is on their radar. He won't be a huge cost to sign and it will be a short-term deal with not a ton of risk. The Jays have a young lineup who are entering their prime so expect management to go all-in this season to do whatever they can to bring another World Series north of the border. Adding a talent like this to their lineup could put Toronto over the top.

Greinke has pitched the last nine seasons pitching in warm climates so look at the Rangers and Angels as the favorites. The Blue Jays as a dark horse could easily surprise and whoever ends up signing the starting pitcher better get used to some weird moments.....
