MLB Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Free-Agent Marwin Gonzalez

Marwin Gonzalez did not sign a new contract before the MLB lockout and now waits to hear from other teams. There's interest in the super utility player and after an up-and-down season with the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros, Gonzalez could be on his way to another club. Let's take a look at three potential destinations:

Detroit Tigers

The Tigers are interested as manager A.J Hinch is very familiar with Gonzalez's game. They spent time together in Houston and Gonzalez could be an under the radar type of addition for the Tigers that could reek some serious benefits. He's versatile to play all over the diamond and Detroit is doing whatever they can to improve their lineup and have also made a huge contract offer to Carlos Correa.
There's no doubt the Tigers also have interest in signing Gonzalez who will not break their bank. Last season was a struggle for the 32-year-old so look for him to find the best opportunity to play as much as possible and that could certainly be with the Tigers.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are considering some cheap options for the bench and could use Gonzalez in multiple fashions. Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro can't get enough versatility on their roster so he certainly fits the bill. Gonzalez is also familiar with a number of Blue Jay players and would be a seamless fit into their club house.
Toronto has already lost Marcus Semien and Cavan Biggio has been involved with trade talks so there could be a need at second base.  Look for these two to resume talks once operations are back up and running and Toronto is certainly a player to sign Gonzalez for next season.

Texas Rangers

The Rangers are going all-in next season and have already spent half a billion dollars this offseason. Gonzalez isn't an expensive addition and could pay off in a big way for the Rangers as he has the ability to play the corner outfield and both second and third base. While he wouldn't be hitting in the middle of their lineup, he could be a nice addition to the bottom third. Gonzalez has played every position last season besides catching and even made an appearance on the mound. Texas needs a little bit of everything so this could be a match made in Rangers' heaven.
