MLB Rumors: 3 Potential Destinations for Rays' Kevin Kiermaier
The Tampa Bay Rays have been involved in a number of different trade discussions this offseason and a player that keeps having their name included is outfielder Kevin Kiermaier. It appears the Rays are willing to deal their long-time gold-glover and let's take a look at three potential destinations for Kiermaier:
Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies are looking for some protection for Bryce Harper and have been linked to a number of players including free-agent Kris Bryant and Kiermaier from the Rays. Philadelphia is also in desperate need for some better defense and more specifically every day in center field. The team has a number of players who just can't stay healthy including Adam Haseley and are in need for some proven MLB talent. Look for them to take a solid run at finalizing this deal.
Texas Rangers
The Rangers continue to look for ways to bolster their roster and the Rays outfielder could be a huge addition. While they are shored up the left side of their infield for the next decade, the Rangers need a center fielder who can step in immediately and contribute. Texas has a number of prospects who aren't quite ready for the bigs and they could be used to meet the Rays hefty asking price. Kiermaier will make $12.1 million in 2022 and the Rangers are one team who don't have an issue spending more money.
Los Angeles Angels
The Angels are doing whatever they can this offseason to create a playoff team as they are sick and tired of wasting away Mike Trout's prime years. Adding an elite glove to their outfielder and allowing Trout to move over to the corners would be a wise move by management. Trout is breaking down at the seams and needs help. While no moves can be completed during the lockout, look for this trade to pick up traction once business is back and running. Kiermaier doesn't provide an intimidating presence in the lineup, but his defense would help the Angels tremendously next season and beyond.
